Transformative Cookstoves and Water Filters
for Localized Production and Implementation
For Self-Reliance, Mukamana Rose is
boiling water on the insulating rocket stove,
fueled by leaves and sticks. There is no
smoke! Save a tree! Biomass fuels can be
burned cleanly using this stove. There is no
need for charcoal or carbonized fuel!
Unlike all other such energy efficient stoves
this insulating rocket stove is affordable, at
US$4. Uniquely for a rocket stoves this is
2-piece. The upper liner is interchangeable
for a cook pot of any size.
The stove will be affordable not only for
homes. Stoves of solid fuels for schools and
clinics should be around US$20, not $400!
This stove could address squarely, some
2% of the global burden of climate change.
It could curtail those 10,000+ deaths per
day, that result from indoor air pollution
due to inefficient cooking.
For Self-Sufficiency, candle water filters
prevent waterborne illnesses and deaths.
These filters can be produced by potters
almost anywhere. These will get 2.0 liters
per hour of safe drinking water, 99.999%
bacteria free, to a family of five or six.
The potters are highly skilled, in the de-
manding needs of identifying clay materials,
processing them, forming, drying and firing.
What is primarily needed is capacity build-
ing, familiarizing the potters in quick pro-
duction techniques of duplicates.
Using these candle filters, some of the
numerous waterborne illnesses that will be
prevented, include, dysentery, cholera,
typhoid, hepatitis and guinea worm.
SDGs 6 & 7, for safe drinking water and
clean cookstoves, stipulate affordability.
Localized production makes this happen.
